In short, acidosis is lactic acid build up. Your body contains an excess of acid, and hard exercise can cause it. During long-lasting sport, in particular, it results in excess lactic acid accumulated during intense efforts. It can lead to fatiguing muscles, burning sensation, as well as decreased performance. It typically occurs with difficult work when the body is not able to eliminate lactate rapidly. The acid condition impacts muscle contraction and generating power. Racing within or slightly beneath the lactate threshold allows the body to cope with acid accumulation. Proper pacing and endurance training decrease its impact when racing over extended distances.
