Less common in running and cycling but frequently used in triathlons, an Age Group Start generally refers to athletes being grouped into their respective age groups, each of which will start the race separately – for example, a few minutes apart. Age Group starts and not rolling starts nor are they mass starts or wave starts. Age group starts are common in championship events as each age group will receive a separate Gun Time to start their event, while each athlete will receive their final Chip Time upon completion.
