Bunch

The bunch is the large mass of riders in a bicycle race. The group tends to ride together in big groups. The bunch is also referred to as the field, pack, group, or peloton.

Riding in a group in long races is advantageous because of drafting. When riders in the back or middle ride, they can conserve their energy since the front riders will take the wind. The position in which riders ride within the group, speed, and response when something happens is quite critical. Although it appears the same, the group is an active arena where chatting, cooperation, and strategizing constantly change, particularly in long races.
