Catching Air

Getting air is when both wheels of the bicycle leave the ground. This normally happens when the bicycle rides over a bump, slope, or hill in the path or roadway.

It can occur in mountain biking or occasionally in gravel or road cycling, either intentionally (on jumps, for instance) or unexpectedly (on uneven terrain). It is enjoyable and demonstrates that the rider is able to control the bike, although a person must possess the right skill to avoid crashing or falling. Relaxing your arms and adopting the correct body position will minimize falling or crashing. It is not as frequent in triathlons or long-distance riding but can occur on various terrain or adventure rides as well.
