A chase group in endurance races such as triathlon or bicycle racing is a group of riders that pool their efforts in order to catch up with an in-front athlete or group. When riding in bike races, coordinated drafting and turns are generally involved.
Athletes in triathlons, particularly in races with draft-permitted events, converge on the bike leg after the fastest swimmers exit the pool first. These teams will attempt to overtake one another before the run. Pacers or the quickest runners also group together in running competitions in an attempt to overtake the front runner.
