Chip Time

Chip Time usually refers to the overall finish time, or an intermediate check point time, recorded by a timing chip during a race. Most common in running, cycling and triathlon, timing chips are widely used to allow the most precise measurement of official race times for each athlete. Some events that use chip time but begin with a mass start or age group start will not use a timing mat at the beginning of the race, rather the gun time will be used as the official start time, while the chip time will be used at the end of the race to calculate the final time.
