Choline is an assistive nutrient that enhances endurance through its support of cell membrane, nerves, and fat metabolism. Although the body is able to produce some choline on its own, having enough choline is necessary, even for athletes who experience extensive stress.
Choline assists in producing a chemical called acetylcholine, which is used in muscle movement as well as maintaining focus. It also assists with adding atom groups to molecules and maintaining liver health. Eggs, lean meats, and legumes are rich in choline. For athletes training for endurance, sufficient choline cuts down on fatigue and inhibits fatigue of the brain in long activities. Although not technically a vitamin, choline is “vitamin-like” and is present in most endurance aids.
