One of the main characteristics of every sportsperson should be respect and sportsmanship.
Class can be difficult to quantify in endurance sports, but it is something that is of great importance. It is observable in how athletes behave—with respect towards other competitors, respect for officials, kindness when they win, and courtesy when they lose. Class athletes are rewarded not only for what they can do, but for how they conduct themselves as well. Assisting an injured competitor, acknowledging a difficult course, or maintaining professionalism in adversity is an example of “class.” While it is not as easy to quantify as watts or pace, possessing “class” tends to garner respect from other athletes in the sport in the long run.
