A classic bicycle race is an old event with extensive history, typically with tough routes and uncertain weather. Paris-Roubaix, Milan–San Remo, and Tour of Flanders are some examples of races that challenge the rider’s physical strength, balance, and intelligent riding. Classics tend to be longer than 200 kilometers, with the elite in the sport of cycling. Classics are respected because they have rich histories and great past champions. Although classics are not stage races, classics are major events on the calendar of the sport of cycling, with some riders structuring their entire season around attempting to win a classic.
