Commissaire

An official responsible for enforcing rules and making decisions in cycling races. Commissaires are cyclocross, track, and road race referees. They are seasoned officials that ensure the event is conducted as per national or UCI directives. Commissaires impose time penalties, fine riders in Swiss Franks, or disqualify riders for infractions such as illegal drafting, misconduct, or improper equipment use. Commissaires ride in official cars, scrutinize podium finishes, and resolve issues. They ensure the event is just, the riders are protected, and everything is in order. Commissaires play an incredibly important role in maintaining fairness in such races as stage races and gran fondos in long-distance cycling.
