Cross Training

Cross training is generally referred to as using another sport or activity to help an athlete’s primary or dominant sport. For example, a cyclist who spends most time doing non-weight bearing exercises may use running or strength training to help maintain and activate other muscle groups when not riding the bike. Triathletes, who compete in swimming, cycling and running, often use weight lifting or a rowing machine to cross train. Cross training doesn’t exclude lighter exercises such as yoga, hiking, paddle boarding, etc. While not as common, cross training can also be referred to as performing two consecutive exercises or using two muscle groups at the same time while strength training.
