Current

A current is moving water flowing in one direction, generally in rivers, oceans, and lakes. For long-distance swimmers racing, currents play an important role, primarily in races in open seas such as triathlons. Current also assists or impedes a swimmer, so the swimmer must alter their style in order to cope with them. Swimmers need to know about, as well as foresee, currents in order to succeed in a race. Side wind can have the same problems for cyclists as it can accelerate them or make them slower, which impacts their position when cycling in the rear of another cyclist.
