DNS stands for when an individual registers for a race but fails to appear on the starting line. The individual may fail to appear for reasons such as being sick, injured, or having some issues. Although the individual is present and prepared, they may not start the race. For races such as long-distance running, bike racing, or triathlons, pre-race anxiety results in DNS. It is distinct from Did Not Finish (DNF), in which an athlete participates in the race but fails to complete it.
