The dismount line is where the bicycle portion of a triathlon concludes, typically just before the transition station (T2). One must dismount from their bike before reaching this line in order not to incur a penalty or be disqualified. The line can be watched for by marshals or volunteers in order to avoid accidents as well as organize things for those continuing in the event. Riding too quickly or failing to dismount in time can lead to accidents or rule infractions. Knowing when and how to dismount efficiently is a vital skill for transitioning between segments of a triathlon.
