Doping is when sportspersons use prohibited substances or methods for enhancing sport performance. It began with blood doping, where blood is removed from the body, stored, then re-infused in order to provide the body with extra oxygen. Today, it comprises various types of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). PEDs improve endurance, power, or recovery, yet they pose great risks and are prohibited in sport. The prime example is Lance Armstrong, who forfeited his seven Tour de France victories when he had used banned methods consistently.
