Riders can draft off other riders who are close to them and take advantage of other riders’ slipstreams in draft legal racing. The practice is known as drafting. It is commonly used for elite triathlons (such as ITU) as well as in racing on the roads. It involves teamwork with strategies of riding in groups, which is an efficient use of energy. Draft legal racing typically modifies the requirements for bicycle design, such as allowing standard bikes used for the roads and specific wheels, in order for the event to be equal and safe.
