Draft Zone

The draft zone is an imaginary rectangle typically 7-12 meters in length and 2 meters in breadth surrounding every cyclist in non-drafting triathlons. No athlete is allowed in another athlete’s draft zone unless passing, and they must do so in the space of time (normally 15–20 seconds). The rule prevents unfair wind benefits and motivates individual effort. Disqualification or penalty may arise from not obeying the draft zone rule.
