“Drop” has a dual meaning for cycling: (1) The difference in height between the wheel axle line and the bottom bracket, which influences the handling and balance of the bike. (2) When a rider “drops” another rider, they have moved ahead and left the other rider behind, typically on a hill or on a fast move. Being dropped leaves a rider in a disadvantageous position, particularly in races or group rides. Riders attempt to keep up with a breakaway or the main group so as not to get dropped.
