Drops

The “drops” refer to the lower curved sections of drop handlebars on a road bicycle. Riding in the drops puts a rider’s upper body lower, reducing size and enhancing speed—helpful in sprinting, descending, or cycling into the wind. Being in the drops can also provide greater control on high-speed sections or challenging corners. Although this position puts greater strain on the body, cyclists adopt it when speed, power, and control are needed.
