Expert

An expert is an individual who possesses much skill or knowledge in one area. They often acquire it through extensive years of training and experience. Individuals in the field regard this individual as an expert or a person with unique abilities. The word can also be an adjective to describe an individual who is recognized as honest within a certain skill or procedure. Friends or the public are reliant on their advice or decisions within that domain.

In more endurance terms, expert is one level below Pro/Elite and one level higher than Sport and is characterized by riders who are superior to beginners but are not professionals. The Expert class is challenging but achievable. It attracts committed amateur riders who ride frequently and compete regularly. Expert Races tend to have challenging courses and longer lengths than Sport events, but they are set up to be achievable for amateur racers. The Expert level is used by most national mountain bike events to allow riders to enhance their racing experience, bike handling, and overall fitness to upgrade to Pro/Elite levels.
