The feeding pontoon is a boat-, dock-, or platform-like floating stage. It is arranged along an open body of water in the race course where coaches provide food or beverages to the participants. It is safe where eating and drinking can take place during the race.
When swimming long distances, competing in triathlons, or crossing the channel, feeding pontoons assist teams in providing gels, bottle, or solids to swimmers without necessitating them to stop. Coaches extend food in waterproof bags or on feeding sticks over the side of the pontoon. Pontoons must be marked and set at uniform distances to provide safety and equality. The system allows athletes to consume food and maintain pace, which prevents them from getting weary or dehydrated during extended activities.
