Field Sprint

Field sprint occurs when there is a large group of runners (or cyclists) who race to the finish as hard as they can. It commonly occurs at the end of flat races or stages when there is a group in the lead who is caught. The quickest runners are at the front in the field sprint, assisted by the special trains to sprint as quickly as possible in the final hundred meters. High speed, air resistance, and timing are highly critical—minor errors can result in losing. A field sprint for running occurs after the final section of the race at predetermined velocities, wherein the runners gradually pick up pace for the final straight section. Field sprinting can be the key to success and the acquisition of crucial points in competitions and championships.
