The flying squirrel mount is a quicker mode of mounting the bike during the triathlon. The athlete will run along the bike and smoothly jump onto the seat and then slide into the saddle to ride. It appears as though they are jumping on the bike when running. This is difficult mount that is time-saving in T1 but requires effort and coordination. The athletes should coordinate as a team, grip the handlebars tightly, and push the bike forward. Good core stability, balance, and confidence are key; unsuccessful attempts are associated with falling or losing pace. The flying squirrel mount is an easy skill to acquire once one masters it and enhances transition pace in triathlon competitions.
