Gear Drop (GD)

A Gear Drop is a designated location on an adventure race course where teams may drop off gear that they will use along the route. It allows athletes to travel lighter in various segments of the race.

Racers prepare by arranging in advance to drop off their gear. They place such things as dry socks, food packets, maps, or transition special equipment in waterproof bags. Support crews or marshals hold these packages at designated locations during the race, so teams are not forced to carry unnecessary weight for the entire race. Properly utilized, gear drops enhance speed, comfort, and safety by ensuring that athletes have the appropriate gear when they need it.
