Grimpeur

The grimpeur is an extremely able climber, particularly on steep mountains. The grimpeur tends to target the King of the Mountains jersey in competitions.

Climbers possess an advantageous weight-to-power ratio, which allows them to conserve energy during long ascents. Climbers tend to struggle during flat races but excel during mountain stages where one needs to be light and endurance-oriented. Climbers initiate the breakaways during Grand Tours or assist the team leaders to climb as well as gain mountain points and critical seconds in the race. Climbers prepare by training on the mountain ascents, conducting hard interval training, and optimizing body composition to enhance climbing ability.
