Hors Délai are those cyclists who complete the stage after the cut-off time in stage racing. Who don’t make the cut. These cyclists are typically not allowed to continue the race, as though they were disqualified. The time limits are on the winner’s time, altered for stage difficulty and type. On the climbing stages, the quickest sprinters may not be within the cut-off time unless they are good climbers. Riders who are too slow are collected in the broom wagon to keep the race safe and on schedule. The riders must pace themselves and coordinate for the gruppetto to complete the stage, so they must listen to the time checks.
