A kermis is an amateur circuit bike race, normally held at the town carnivals (the Dutch word for the carnival). The circuit covers 5–15 tents along town streets.
The Kermis events draw professional and amateur riders looking for aggressive, fast-paced racing in an atmosphere of celebration. The short circuits feature numerous corners and sprint finishes, which tax bike-handling and position skills. The local crowds are huge, with fans hanging on the curb and the celebration carrying on well beyond the finish.
