Floating dividers are lane lines used in swimming pools to mark swimming lanes within competitions and training. Lane lines consist of plastic finned discs carried on cable that rotates to scatter surface waves.
By dispersing wave energy, lane lines reduce lane-to-lane turbulence and interference, allowing swimmers to concentrate and swim at optimal level. Lane lines also offer visual feedback to swim on an unbroken course and to respect lane occupation in an orderly fashion. The same visual lane markers can also be used to guide the flow of swimmers into lanes during open water swim start and finish zones.
