Lube, short for lubricant, serves two general purposes in endurance sports: maintaining the bike and the body. On the bike, lubricants reduce friction between moving components such as the drivetrain and the chain, making pedaling smooth and easing wear on the brakes.
Anti-chafing creams or balms are applied to the skin in areas that are rubbing together during prolonged workouts, such as thighs, under the arms, the feet, or under wet suits. Body lube prevents skin burning and blisters on long events. Choose the appropriate lube for the sport that you are engaging in, such as wet lube for rain biking or long run special balm.
