A metric century is a bike tour of 100 kilometers, approximately 62 miles. It is equivalent to a standard 100-mile tour but in units of kilometers. It is commonly used for bicycle events, gran fondos, and personal challenges.
Metric century rides are an enormous endurance test but are within the capability of fit bike riders who are not professional. These rides normally come equipped with support, including help stations, directional signs, and repair assistance, so the rider can concentrate on pace, food, and views. Completion of metric century rides improves rider confidence and prepares riders for the major events, such as double century rides or the cycling portion of triathlons.
