The middle group consists of runners who are in between the front runners who are fast and the rear runners who are slow. These runners are not competing to win but are not struggling to complete within the cut-off times as well.
Middle group runners or cyclists tend to pace themselves and conserve energy by staying in the group behind others. They may desire to set personal best times, finish well within their peer group, or simply complete the race with less effort. Although less visible than the front-runners or the very last participants, the middle group consists of the majority of the participants in large events. This indicates that such athletes possess good endurance and are able to pace themselves.
