A musette is a light bag that bike riders receive in the feed zone when in a race. It usually contains energy bars, gels, bananas, and spare bottles of the drink mix.
Cyclists use musettes to receive food and liquids as they ride without stopping. They are given out by soigneurs in the feed stations along the way, commonly 50-60 kilometers in a Grand Tour. Cyclists clip the musette to the handlebar or shoulder after receiving the musette and stow the food and beverage in the pockets of their jerseys. They dispose of discarded bags to maintain a clean feed area. Efficient and secure musette swaps are crucial skills to avoid spills and conserve time.
