An off-camber turn occurs when a road or a path banks in the opposite direction of a turn and becomes an unstable surface that leans outward. Off-camber turns in mountain biking or cyclocross test bike handling and balance; riders have to shift weight and keep the outside wheel on track. Calculating an off-camber inaccurately leads to skidding or falling. Practice on varied terrain and becoming skilled in using the right body position—decreasing body center of gravity, outside pedal down—allows athletes to ride these tough corners quick and securely.
