Official

At swimming competitions, an official is an experienced judge monitoring stroke legality, turns, and finishes. Officials remain on deck, observing starts, swimming strokes, and turns to uphold FINA or national rules. Others serve as timers with stopwatches to monitor even race times. Enforcing rules—no jumping the start, correct turn technique, legal finishes—officials provide fair and secure competition and safeguard athletes’ performances and competition integrity.
