An Olympic distance triathlon involves a 1.5 km (0.9 mile) swim, a 40 km (24.8 mile) bike ride, and a 10 km (6.2 mile) run. This configuration tests how quick, powerful, and fluid athletes are in transitioning between events.
Olympic distance is included in Olympic Games and the ITU World Triathlon Series. For participation, you must train in swimming, cycling, and running. The workout involves practice at the rate of the competition—swimming rapidly, cycling at a consistent rate, and running fast, along with quick transitions between the activities (T1 and T2). Professional athletes complete the competition in 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 05 minutes and amateur athletes in 2 hours 15 minutes to 3 hours.
