PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid) is a vitamin-like compound that helps form folic acid and supports protein metabolism and red blood cell formation.
PABA aids enzymes and acts as an antioxidant. It assists in the breaking down of fats in the liver and in the use of pantothenic acid (vitamin B₅). Although it isn’t a vitamin, it assists in the body using the nutrients and assists the cells in function. Whole grain foods, organ meats, and brewer’s yeast have PABA. Supplements are useful for athletes enduring prolonged exertion because they have more oxidative stress and require added B vitamins for intense workouts.
