A Personal Best (PB) refers to an athlete’s best score or the fastest time recorded for a given event or distance.
PBs indicate improvement, drive, and goal achievement. It might be a 5K run, a 40K TT or a 100m swim; a new PB signals that the training is going right. Athletes monitor the PBs for various seasons to notice how they have progressed and to adapt their training. Rewarding PBs—no matter the finishing position—promotes improvement and ensures athletes are committed to the sport.
