Points Classification

Points classification assists riders that perform well in stage races. They award top riders in the stages as well as in the intermediate sprints. The rider that has accumulated the most points wears the special green jersey.

Points are awarded according to where a rider finishes—flat stages award more points to sprinters and mountain stages fewer. This system rewards riders capable of sprinting and riding on various types of terrain. Teams target the points classification and the overall classification, and they utilize leadout trains to assist sprinters and reel in breakaways ahead of sprint sections.
