A publicity caravan is a procession of sponsor vehicles that precedes the race convoy in each Grand Tour stage. Each sponsor contributes cars or floats that distribute promotional items and amuse spectators along the route.
Leaving early in the morning a few hours in front of the primary group, the caravan generates excitement, interacts with local residents, and exposes sponsors. Cars distribute sponsor-branded goods such as hats, jerseys, and little toys that make it a celebration atmosphere. Although it does not compete in the race, the caravan is vital for the appearance and revenue it generates, oftentimes featuring more vehicles than the race itself. Its colorful procession is now a familiar beginning to the day’s racing.
