Push refers to the utilization of force while exercising. In swimming, the push is the final segment of each stroke that occurs underwater that propels the body forward. In weight lifting or cycling, to push is to exert your strength on the pedal or against the weights when you’re lifting. In freestyle swimming, a good push phase extending the arm all the way and involving the triceps aids the production of more motion before the arm exits the water. Push exercises in strength work (such as bench press and push-ups) develop chest, shoulder, and triceps muscles used for stability and strength. Cyclists push on the downstroke, translating leg power into forward motion. Push techniques in various sports enhance speed, endurance, and performance.
