Quadriceps

Quads or quadriceps are four muscles situated in the front part of the thigh. They include rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, and vastus intermedius. These are the primary muscles which straighten the knee. They are utilized in running, cycling, and swim kicks. In cycling, the quads aid in pushing the pedals downward by extending the knee and the hip. Quadriceps which are strong enable climbing easily, quick acceleration, and shock absorption on rough roads. Runners use their quads to push off the ground and stabilize their knees, while swimmers utilize the muscles in flutter and dolphin kicks. Squats, lunges, and leg presses strengthen the quadriceps and make the muscles stronger and reduce the risk of injury. This enhances performance in endurance sporting activities.
