The Ready Room is the area in which the swimmers wait prior to their races. It serves two primary functions: They are able to review the race information and prepare their equipment, and receive last-minute advice from officials or coaches. Swimmers may do specific exercises, warm up, talk softly, or engage in a form of “mind games” to psych out their competitors. Employing the Ready Room appropriately—a balance of concentration and relaxation—allows the swimmer to remain focused and self-assured prior to each competition.
