A sprinter is a runner or cyclist that is extremely quick for brief distances. Cyclists that are sprinters perform well in level races that have a strong finish. Sprinters have a larger proportion of fast-twitch muscle fibers that enable them to move very fast for a very short distance using very little oxygen. They might not perform as well in longer distances as a whole, but must end well. Sprinters tend to perform well for a short distance or for the end stages of triathlons and running. Leading sprinters such as Mark Cavendish and Caleb Ewan are known to be strong and speedy for the last stages of the race.
