Sticky Bottle

A sticky bottle occurs when a rider grabs a bottle from the team car and holds on longer than needed, gaining a helpful tug forward. It’s often tolerated but technically against the rules.
This sneaky tactic allows a struggling cyclist to gain some brief assistance without overtly violating the rules. Race officials may turn a blind eye unless the act is excessive or repeated, in which case penalties can be issued. It’s one of the many subtle strategies used in pro cycling.
