Supination

Supination refers to the outward rolling of the foot during the gait cycle, particularly noticeable at toe-off. In excess, it results in poor shock absorption.
In runners, oversupination (or underpronation) is a rare biomechanical issue—less than 1% of the population experiences it. It can lead to injuries such as shin splints, plantar fasciitis, or ankle instability. Proper footwear with adequate cushioning and neutral support is essential to offset the lack of natural shock dissipation in overpronators.
