A swim skin is a tight-fitting suit worn over a tri suit during non-wetsuit swims. It’s designed to reduce drag in the water without adding buoyancy.
Swim skins are legal in triathlons when wetsuits are not allowed due to warm water temperatures. They’re made of hydrophobic materials and fit like a second skin, helping athletes glide through the water more efficiently. Though the advantage is mostly marginal, competitive athletes wear them for every possible edge.
