Time Trial (TT) A time trial is a race in which the riders race alone against the clock. They begin individually and do not receive assistance or draft behind other riders. Time trials test how quickly riders can go, how they pace themselves, and how efficiently air flows around them. Riders attempt to complete the course as quickly as possible while maintaining consistent effort. They usually wear special equipment such as aero bars, disc wheels, and skin suits. Time trials occur in triathlons, stage races, and individual events, and they can significantly affect overall standings. There is also a team time trial (TTT), where teams ride together to race against the clock. In both forms, time trials are referred to as the “race of truth” since they reveal each rider’s actual ability without any tactics.
