A velodrome is a circular sloping track designed for track cycling. The sport involves racing in competitions that range from brief sprints to long-distance endurance competitions. There are indoor or outdoor velodromes which range about 250 meters in length and have sloping sides for speedy corners. Match sprints, team pursuit, keirin, and omnium comprise the races. Track cycling involves precision, speed, and tactics on the specialized bikes without the use of brakes and specially constructed wheels that are aerodynamic.
