A volunteer is someone that assists in an endurance event for free. They may assist in signing up participants, assisting in aid stations, handling transition areas, or working on the course.
Volunteers play a significant role in endurance events such as triathlons, marathons, and bicycle races. They keep athletes safe, improve the flow of the event, and make the race a fun and successful experience. Volunteers tend to arrive early, before the athletes, and remain there after the race. As a reward for their support, volunteers may receive t-shirts, food, or a complimentary entry for next year’s race. Volunteering also serves as a fun chance for potential athletes to meet people in the endurance sport or to view a race that they may participate in the following year.
