W/kg

W/kg refers to watts per kilogram and represents a key indicator of how efficient a person is when cycling. It indicates the ratio of the power produced to body weight. To calculate it, you would only need to divide your wattage (your power output) by your weight in kg.
Weight plays a very significant role in climbing because it determines how a person performs. A rider with a high value for the w/kg ratio will easily ride up steep hills. Trainers and sites such as Zwift and TrainingPeaks use the value to group riders and recommend workouts. Professional cycling’s best climbers tend to have values above 6.0 in the important moments. Though total power comes into play in the case of a time trial or a sprint, the measurement of w/kg provides a better picture of climbing ability and endurance. It levels the playing field for both the lighter and the heavier riders because it considers the relative power rather than absolute strength.
